Around 1928, the John Wood Company decided to go into the service
station equipment business.  They acquired the Bennett Pump Co.,
the ECO Air Meter Co., and the Shotwell Pump Co.
These three companies were made part of the newly created
Service Station Equipment Company (SSEC) a division of the
Wood Company.
ECO and Shotwell were made part of the Bennett Pump Co.
Up until this time Bennett had not made a gas pump for the
retail trade.
Shotwell's pumps were originally sold under their own name.  When
Bennett started making and selling them they were called the
"Bennett-Shotwell" pumps.
A year or two later, they were just called "Bennett" pumps.

The 550 was one of the original Shotwell pumps.  Shotwell referred to it as the
"Ringbell."
